Abstract
Sociology is a science which emerged in France in the 19th century and came up to Turkey at the beginning of the 20th century. The Ottoman Empire which changed its direction to the West, especially to France, starting from the 18th century is also influenced by the sociological trends in France. This study deals with the story of sociology in Turkey and Turkish universities. In this respect, the establishment of sociology as a discipline in the universities of Ankara and Istanbul, its main approaches, significant representatives and publications, the basic issues and problems of Turkish sociology will be dealt with in a historical perspective.
