Abstract
Publisher Summary This chapter describes sorption isotherms for H 2 0, C 6 H 6, and N 2 on silicalite and ZSM-5 after different dealumination treatments by equations derived from the Polanyi-Dubinin potential theory of volume filling of micropores. The influence of dealumination on the sorption properties of zeolites is not sufficiently appreciated. Sorption properties of MFI type zeolites depend on crystal size, morphology, temperature, Si/Al ratio, Al distribution, acidity, and degree of ion exchange, the type of adsorbate and the sorption history. Therefore, ones studied effects of deal on the sorption properties of ZSM-5 for various types of adsorbates of potentially different interactions with the zeolite framework: Small molecules of H 2 0 with a high-dipole moment, larger cylindrical N 2 molecules with a quadrupole moment, due to double bonding, and large and flat C 6 H 6 rings with n electrons.
