Abstract

The article characterizes the Institute for the Development of the Polish Language, which aims to promote the Polish language abroad. It presents the genesis of the Institute, its structure and the tasks assigned to it. The Institute’s activities were compared with those undertaken in the field of education of foreign children and deaf children for which the Ministry of Education and Science is also responsible. As a result, it was concluded that the newly established unit seems superfluous, as it does not solve any problems in the area of language rights of individuals, nor does it have any chance of effectively promoting the Polish language abroad in the adopted formula
