Abstract

Three types of optical problems on which the author has worked are outlined. The first concerns the behavior of optical systems as revealed by an analysis of spot diagrams. The second analyzes the chromatic characteristics of optical substances leading to superachromatic lenses, which are corrected for a broad wavelength band. The third sketches ideas leading to the analytical design of optical systems without ray tracing.
