Abstract
In the past fifty years Portuguese poetry has dealt with images in very distinct ways. There has been rhetorical elaboration of the poetic image; emphasis on poems' iconicity; and the creation of intermedial relations through ekphrasis and media combination. This range of diverse relations between text and image enables us to capture a poetics in the process of transformation. This study proposes some approaches to reading contemporary Portuguese poetry based on these multiple ways of conceiving and working with images.
