Abstract

Microphone wind noise measurements have been obtained by a technique involving a microphone attached to the end of a long pendulum. These data are compared with measurements obtained in a duct. Subsequent experiments indicate that the level of the microphone wind noise depends, in some cases, on the level of turbulence in the air stream. It appears, however, that the reduction of noise afforded by the wind screen is independent of turbulence level. A useful method for separating wind noise from acoustic signals is implied by this tentative result.
