Abstract

AbstractThe small Krvavac settlement is situated on the shore of the Neretva river in R. Croatia. It has suffered from floods in the past, due to which programme has been prepared in order to design a protective embankment. The groundwater at the location is almost at the ground surface, and different soil materials are present, with variable parameters. Thus, after accepting the appropriate cross section and respecting the geotechnical data, slope stability calculations have been conducted, which allowed more precise position of the geosynthetic impermeable material, as well as settlement analyses for several time domains which asked for recommendations in order to reduce their intensity. The obtained experiences stress the need of such embankments, regardless the settlement size, especially due to unexpected radical changes of weather conditions not only in the region.
