Abstract

The paper discusses benefits and challenges of international virtual exchange (VE) in teaching and learning at the higher education (HE) institutions. Expressions virtual exchange, virtual engagement and collaborative online international learning (COIL) are used interchangeably. The descriptions of several successfully accomplished VE projects during the past few years, by the author and her peers from several foreign HE institutions, are given. Three Information Technology (IT) tools for virtual exchange, i.e. Trello, Slack and Flipgrid are presented, with focus on their purpose and usability. Some suggestions for uplifting VE, as a digital pedagogy model in higher education, are given as conclusion remarks.
