Abstract
The veterinarian in clinical practice is subjected to a myriad of behavioral characteristics from a wide variety of exotic pets seen routinely. Very little has been written on the behavior of many of the species. Nevertheless, the veterinarian is expected to have significant knowledge on the subject matter. This article deals with behavioral information on many of the nonavian pets seen in practice. The material presented should do much to help the veterinarian or other healthcare worker better understand some of the basic behaviors known. Information has been presented from the author's own experiences in over 30 years of exotic animal practice and from published information obtained from the collective experience of many others with similar backgrounds in clinical practice. It is hoped that others will be stimulated by this basic article to published and further share information for the benefit of all.
