Some ideas for STEM integrated teaching in the 11th grade Mathematics

Abstract

The STEM integrated education is being strongly developed in Vietnam, facilitating students to apply flexibly and effectively the knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to solve real-life problems. Following the new trend, STEM centers have been established throughout Vietnam in recent years. In addition, training programs for teachers and students on the STEM education, STEM conferences, and national/international competitions are also organized annually. However, the source of high quality materials for teachers in general and math teachers in particular is still limited. The 11th grade Math curriculum with the contents related to Algebra, Calculus, Probability, Solid Geometry, and etc., has applications in various fields and becomes background knowledge for the 12th grade Math and Higher Education Math program. Therefore, the authors decided to choose the current 11th Math program to research and propose teaching ideas integrating Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, and some Math softwares to support Math teachers in teaching in a new direction. On that basis, the important role of Mathematics in real life in general and in the STEM education in particular will be properly recognized.
