Abstract

Cotting as one of the wool faults in coarse wool fleeces of sheep, affects some physical wool characteristics, hence lower prices are given for this type. Some histological examinations were studied in two local coarse wool breeds, desert Barki and Saidi sheep, the latter at the extreme south of Egypt. High cotting was associated with lower secondary to primary follicle (S/P) ratio, higher sebaceous gland area and higher sebaceous gland cell and nucleus diameters of both primary and secondary follicles.
