Abstract
Some pregnane-type steroids, including progesterone and some of its metabolites, produce behavioral and electro-physiologic changes in experimental animals. The most marked effects are obtained with i.v. administration of progesterone metabolites of the 5β-pregnane type. These agents surpass the commonly known, short-acting barbiturates in hypnotic potency.
