Abstract
Opening a discussion about the Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature (BARKMAN et al. 1986) seems to me a good idea, partly because I am sceptical about some of the rules of the present Code (see JULVE 1993, for example), and partly because I feel that there is a lack of discussion on this theme among phytosociologists. The basic question is: Do we need a Code? This question is related to another: should we coordinate our methods? In this paper I would like to address, firstly, the relationships between the nomenclature and the different methodological approaches, and secondly, the problems concerning the choice of a name.
