Abstract

In previous issues of The Arithmetic Teacher, the need for appropriate research topics and good research design was explored. There are many other important considerations in improving research in elementary school mathematics. One of the most pressing is the topic for this month's column—the use of tests and other instruments to measure the outcomes of the research treatments. The goal of the material that follows is to suggest several key considerations in developing, using, and reading studies that utilize research instruments.
