Abstract

Interpreting the word radar in its broadest sense, it covers radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum from the visible, through the infra-red and into the microwave region. Remembering the essential data handling systems which radar also implies it is natural to find a strong solid state laboratory forming a central part of the Physics Research activities at The Royal Radar Establishment. This article reviews a selection of topics from the physics area which illustrate typical parts of the more basic physics research.
