Abstract

SUMMARYKaryotypes of Aulacaspts sp., Diaspis echinocacti, Pseudaulacaspis sp., Aonidiella sp., Aonidiella auratitii, Aonidiella orientalis, Aspidiotus nerii, Clavaspis group, and Hemiberlesia palmae belonging to seven different genera and two different tribes of the family Diaspididae have been cytologically studied from embryos of gravid females. The diploid number ranges from 8 to 16 among these 9 species. Karyomorphometrical analyses were attempted in all 9 species. The trend in chromosome diversity found among congeneric and confamilial species under family Diaspididae led one to believe that tribe Aspidiotini is the latest form in the pathways of armored scale evolution.
