Abstract
A novel polymeric copper(I) complex with 5-methyltetrazolate ligands has been prepared by reaction of copper(II) nitrate, sodium azide, and EtN3 in methanol and acetonitrile under solvolthermal conditions. The structure of the complex was characterized by elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray crystallography. The complex crystallizes in hexagonal space group R-3m, with unit cell dimensions a = b = 16.027(3) Å, c = 9.394(2) Å, V = 2089.7(7) Å3, Z = 18, R 1 = 0.0316, and wR 2 = 0.0854. Each Cu atom in the complex is coordinated by four N atoms from four 5-methyltetrazolate ligands, forming a tetrahedral coordination. It is an easy way to prepare 5-methyltetrazole by reaction of sodium azide with acetonitrile under solvolthermal conditions. Supplemental materials are available for this article.
