Abstract

Extraction of the uranyl ion (UO2 2+) from aqueous nitric acid solution was investigated by employing 4-oxaheptanediamide (OHA) as extractants in ionic liquids of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (C n mim+Tf2N−, n = 4, 6 and 8). The distribution ratios of uranyl ion were found to decrease with increasing aqueous nitric acid concentration. Carbon chain length of alkyl groups attached to the nitrogen atoms of the extractants played an important role to the extraction efficiency of UO2 2+. The extraction of UO2 2+ was confirmed to proceed by cation-exchange mechanism, and the OHAs extractant formed a major 1:1 complex with UO2 2+.
