Abstract
Certain aspects of the chemistry of the positive oxidation states of astatine have been investigated by solvent distribution studies. The existence of a chlorocomplex, probably AtCl 2 −, has been established. Methods for the recovery of astatine from inorganic residues, and for the isolation of astatine from bismuth targets, have been based on the ether extractability of this complex. Some organic reactions attributable to HAtO have been observed.
