Abstract

The solvation process of the electron in polar liquids is investigated within the framework of the continuum model. The medium is assumed to be a continuous dielectric characterized by the static dielectric constant εs, the optical dielectric constant εop, and the relaxation time τ. The motion of the excess electron and the relaxation of the medium are treated consistently. The former is treated quantum mechanically and the latter classically. The time evolution of the wavefunctions, polarization, energy levels, and transition energy is calculated.
