Abstract

The ACC benchmark problem for robust control design involving a two-mass-spring system has been examined in over 45 journals and conference papers In particular, a paper by Thompson (1995). surveyed over 10 different designs for this problem and found that many solutions were unsatisfactory. The Coefficient Diagram Method (CDM) is an algebraic design method following the inward approach. This paper outlines the application of CDM to solve the ACC benchmark problem. The resulting CDM controller was found to perform better than many leading designs.
