Abstract
The Reynolds' equation for a non-Newtonian lubricant is solved for a finite width journal bearing. The Reynolds' boundary conditions have been satisfied at the outlet. The algebraic equations resulting from implementation of fonite difference formulations of Reynolds' equations are highly non-linear. The modified Newton's technique is used to solve the non-linear simultaneous equations. The method used here is much more accurate than other conventional methods. The results indicate that non-Newtonian behaviour of the lubricant has a more beneficial effect in the case of relatively short bearings.
