Abstract

A method is described for determining crack tip stress intensity factors for cracks growing from stress raisers such as voids or inclusions, but in bodies having finite external dimensions. This is based on a combination of the dislocation density approach, where the influence of the stress raiser is automatically included, and the boundary element method, which is used to account for the presence of the remote surfaces.
