Abstract
We derive an asymptotic solution for the modes of a plane parallel resonator directly from the Kirchhoff-Fresnel integral equation when the Fresnel number is large. The eigenvalues are calculated from the continuity of the solution on the boundaries of the mirrors. The form of our solution is similar to that of Vaynshteyn, but the complex argument and the eigenvalues are different.
