Abstract

Water insoluble food flavouring agents, viz, benzyl acetate, 2-phenyl ethanol and geraniol were solubilized in SDS (sodium dodecyl sulphate) and Triton X-100 surfactant solutions respectively and also in the mixture of these two surfactants. 2-phenyl ethanol was found to be more solube in SDS (anionic) micellar solution as compared to that in TX-100 (non-ionic) micellar solution. Solubilization of Geraniol was found to be more in TX-100 than SDS solution. The solubilization of benzyl acetate remained almost the same in both types of micellar solutions, but its solubilization was almost twice in the mixed micellar solution. Interestingly, there was no change in the solubilization of 2-phenyl ethanol and geraniol in the mixed micellar solution.
