Abstract

Author examined phenomena of solubilization of various solubilizates systematically applying the phase diagram of three components attaching importance on high-concentrated zone of polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate (Tween 20).As the results, the solubilization of various solubilizates in low-concentrated zone of surface active agent was the same as the repoits submited before, but in high-concentrated zone, the same phenomena as liquid crystal found by Dr. A. S. C. Lawrence and J. W. McBain was seen, and in addition to, obtained other new knowledge as mentioned below;1. Phase inversion was seen distinctly in solubilization of monohyolric alcohols in high-concentrated zone of surface active agent, and it was clearly noted that the inversion points have a correlation with the carbon numbers of alcohols.2. A strange phenomena appeared in solubilization of aromatic hydrocarbons in high-concentrated zone of surface active agent, i.e. in benzene, a very slight cloudy system was seen in some spot of cloudy zone, and the phenomena had disappeared when a methyl radical was added to benzene ring as toluene, and two curved lines occured from its disappeared point, and two systems was formed, and moreover, such phenomena was seen more prominently when two methyl radicals were added to benzene ring as xylene. Thus, a notable affection of methyl radicals to solubilization was seen very clearly.
