Abstract

Using 1 H and 13 CNMR, near infrared, ESR and light scattering techniques, the solubilization behavior of water and the formation of reversed micelles by hexaethylene glycol dodecyl ether in cyclohexane and n-decane were examined as a function of the molar ratio water/surfactant at 25°C. The solubilization region of water was divided into three different states of water in cyclohexane, but in n-decane it was composed of two states. These different states were found to the correlated to the formation of reversed micelles. However, W/O microemulsions included the water droplets having similar property with bulk water could not be observed in any solvent systems.
