Abstract

A lattice gas model, in which solvent and solute molecules may occupy different numbers of sites, is used to examine the solubility of pure solids in supercritical gases. Provided that the ratio of molecular sizes is ≲3, isotherms (solubility vs pressure) conform well to experimental data over the full range of gas densities. In most cases only one parameter is required aside from data on the pure components, and all parameters have direct, simple physical meanings.
