Abstract
The physical basis of the Uhlig-Blander theory is criticized. It Is shown that gas solubilities may equally well be explained assuming that gas molecules occupy thermal holes already present in the liquid. Classical hole theory is modified by the introduction of a radius-dependent microscopic surface tension. The resulting solubility equation resembles the Uhlig-Blander equation.
