Abstract

The nonlinear spin dynamics of the discrete classical easy-plane ferromagnetic spin chain in an external field is investigated by computing the time evolution of nonplanar soliton configurations. Owing to the discreteness we find a soliton instability and a substantial contraction of the soliton spectrum. We discuss the important roles of quantum effects and of discreteness for the understanding of the soliton contribution to the specific heat.
