Abstract

The solubility of dipyridamole was determined in five pure solvents (methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol and 1-butanol) and three binary solvents (methanol + water, ethanol + water and 2-propanol + water) by gravimetric method from 293.15 K to 328.15 K at atmospheric pressure. The solubility of dipyridamole increases in all solvent systems with increasing temperature. In binary solvents, the solubility varies with the solvent composition and shows the maximum in (ethanol/2-propanol + water) binary solvents at a certain composition of 0.7 and 0.6. The Apelblat model, λh equation and NRTL model were employed to correlate the solubility data. Moreover, the mixing thermodynamic properties in both pure and binary solvents were calculated based on the NRTL model. The results indicate that the dissolution process of dipyridamole is spontaneous and exothermic.
