Abstract

AbstractThis work reports a solid‐state preparation of hybrid tetraphenylphosphonium (Ph4P+) compounds (Ph4P)MI3 (M=Eu2+, Sr2+ and Sn2+). The new materials (Ph4P)EuI3 and (Ph4P)SrI3 are found to crystallize isotypically in the trigonal space group , where Eu2+ and Sr2+ ions exhibit similarly two different crystallographic positions and occupy the centers of trigonal antiprismatic sites. The corresponding compound (Ph4P)SnI3 was accordingly prepared by solid‐state reaction to yield yellow crystals which crystallize in a monoclinic structure (P21/c). The luminescent properties of (Ph4P)EuI3 were investigated and the results revealed that Eu2+ displays an intensive green band emission peaked at 536 nm. The radiative decay time determined upon excitation at 536 nm is 508 ns.
