Abstract

Er3+-doped La2Ti2O7 nanocrystals with pyrochlore structure are prepared by sol–gel method and examined by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and UV–vis spectrophotometer. An intense green emission along with a red emission is observed under the excitation at 980nm. La2Ti2O7:Er3+ exhibits the intense green emission bands around 525 and 549nm, and the weak red emission bands around 660nm. The optimal annealing temperature is 1000°C and the appropriate doping concentration of Er3+ is 13at.%. Power dependence analysis reveals that the green and red emissions originate from a two-photon absorption process. Excited state absorption and energy transfer processes are discussed as the possible upconversion mechanisms.
