Abstract
Tetraethyldibismuthine (Bi2Et4) reacts with elemental chalcogens with insertion into the Bi–Bi bond and formation of bis(diethylbismuthanyl)chalcogenanes ((Et2Bi)2E; E = S (1), Se (2), Te (3)). The structures of 1–3 were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The complexes exclusively adopt syn-anti conformations in the solid state. The molecules show weak intermolecular Bi···chalcogen contacts, resulting in the formation of a three-dimensional network of corner-shared Bi4E tetrahedra (E = S, Se, Te).
