Abstract

In this paper the effect of CaF 2 and CaSO 4 on the equilibrium phases in the CaOSiO 2Al 2O 3 system at 1050 °C and 1100 °C is presented. The phase compatibilities in the five components system were obtained by adding increasing amounts of CaF 2 to CaO-rich compositions of the CaOC 2SCACaSO 4 system. The introduction of an additional component into the quaternary tetrahedron, involves the appearence of seven quinary compatibilities at 1050 °C and five quinary compatibilities at 1100 °C. The quinary volume F, can be observed at 1050 °C as well as 1100 °C. It contains C 3S ss in equjlibrium with CaOC 12A 7ss-fluorellestadite and CaF 2· C 3S ss is formed in those compositions in which all the CaSO 4 is combined as fluorellestadite and all the Al 2O 3 as C 12A 7ss. Besides, some extra CaF 2 must exist. For those compositions rich in CaO in wich CaSO 4 CaF 2 < 3 , Al 2O 3 CaF 2 < 7 , CaSO 4 + Al 2O 3 < 10CaF 2 and SiO 2 CaSO 4 > 1 , the formation of C 3S ss is produced.
