Abstract

Isotopic exchange of platinum between its two states in [Pt(en)Br 2]·[Pt(en)Br 4] was not detected in 24 hr at 25°C. The exchange between the corresponding states in N,N′-dimethyl-formamide solutions was found to be strongly catalysed by Br −. A rapid exchange in solution, induced by light, was strongly inhibited by IrCl 6 −−. In the absence of Br −, an uncontrolled impurity induced an exchange in the dark which prevented reproducible results for solutions made from different solvent batches.
