Abstract
The amorphization reaction induced by an amorphous phase through mechanical milling (MM) was studied. The mixture of elemental Al powders and as-mechanically alloyed amorphous Ni 70 Zr 30 powders was mechanically milled in a planetary ball mill. X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were used to investigate the process. The results indicate that the amorphization induced by MM is mainly dominated by the diffusion of Al into amorphus Ni-Zr phase. A new completely amorphous phase could be obtained with the composition of Al 25 (Ni 70 Zr 30 ) 75.
