Abstract
Contact solid-phase interactions under load in the Bi–Au binary system whose elements have significantly different rheological properties are studied. It was found that fast mass transfer processes in a loaded system are activated due to the mobility of mesostructural elements of contacting materials. The major role in the large-scale mass transfer is played by the Hedvall effect, i.e., an increase in the reactivity during or as a result of the crystal structure transformation.
