Abstract

Numerical investigation of the jet mixing of a sword alternating-lobe nozzle with lobed and nail-like spoilers located at the lobe peaks was conducted to analyse the effect of different lobe peak spoilers on the pumping ratio, mixing effectiveness, and total pressure recovery coefficient. It was found that suitable designed nail-like spoilers can improve the performance of a lobed nozzle adopted in infrared suppressors. It was concluded that the mixing is dominated by large-scale heat and mass transfer. It was suggested that a high performance lobed nozzle can be produced by optimising the large-scale heat and mass transfer in mixing process.
