Abstract

NASA's Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) has provided the first view of the solar system's tail, known as the heliotail, in the downwind region of the heliosphere, scientists announced at a 10 July briefing and in the 10 July issue of Astrophysical Journal. Scientists previously had presumed that the solar system had a heliotail and have observed “astrotails” around other stars.
