Abstract

In this paper it is discussed the transgenic soybean production and the debates among experts and laymen on their perception in terms of risks originated from that activity. Although the beginning of such practice started a decade and a half ago, the two groups have been far from an agreement on the presence of risks, or not, in relation to the environment and human health. The short, medium and large timescales concerning risks lose reference because of the inexistence and obscurantism in researches that aim to analyze the mentioned issues. Thus, it is considered the ethical responsibility of researchers and politicians in favor of the Federal Constitution to ensure that the interests of the agrochemical and biotechnology industries do not overlap with the national research policies and food production. It is necessary to discuss the institutional standards of the Principle of Precaution or their substitution by the Principle of Percentage so that researches that aim to identify possible risks in relation to the transgenic food can be developed without political or market interferences.
