Abstract

Abstract ‘Sundance’ sweet corn was planted 18 May at the Beef Unit, OARDC. Corn had been seeded in the plots after 1 Jun 1988, and no insecticide treatments were used that year. Plant spacing was 30 inches between rows. Plots consisted of 2 rows, 40 ft in length. Treatments were applied at planting with an electric Gandy applicator metering granular formulations in 7 inch bands or in the seed furrow. Band applications were placed in front of the press wheel and were immediately incorporated. Experimental design was a randomized complete block with 4 replications. Plots were inspected for signs of phytotoxicity after emergence and during the final evaluation. On 18 Jul, 4 root systems/plot were dug, washed, and rated according to the following scale: 1) no damage, 2) up to 2 roots pruned, 3) 3-6 roots pruned, 4) Vn of root mass pruned, 5) % root mass pruned, 6) all roots pruned.
