Abstract

Abstract A stand of (ca 2.5 cm diam) Virginia pine on a commercial plantation was used for evaluation. Fifteen single tree replicates were treated 10 Apr at the drip line with either 70 g of 15% granular carbofuran or 70 g of 15% granular disulfoton or 1-150 g Jobe's 16-4-4 tree spike with 1% carbofuran or 1-150 g Jobe's 15-3-3 tree spike with 1% disulfoton or no treatment. One half of the replicates for each treatment were retreated 4 Jun with equivalent original treatments. Once each month trees were examined and the no of damaged tips per tree was recorded. Data from 2 examination dates, corresponding to peaks of larval activity, were chosen for analysis.
