Abstract

Abstract The paper introduces the concepts of process maturity and certification by presenting some of the main existing approaches and standards in this area. First, with the ISO 9000 family, the concept of a quality system and its certification is presented. Then the concept of process maturity is introduced through a short description of the objectives and the main technical characteristics of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). An introduction to SPICE follows explaining the background and main objectives of the emerging standard for software process assessment, process improvement and capability determination. Finally, the new SPICE conformant version of the BOOTSTRAP methodology is announced.
