Abstract
The provision of soft X-ray energy resolution in microchannel plate detectors for imaging X-ray astroonomy is discussed. A theoretical study of MCP avalanche initiation and propagation is presented. The prediction that limited energy resolution ought to be observable in high efficiency CsI coated chevron MCPs under certain bias voltage conditions is verified experimentally.
