Abstract

We investigate in this letter, the magnetic structure of surfaces. At T=0, even when the exchange constants on the surface are the same than in the bulk crystal, soft magnons can exist. This instability leads to a magnetic ‘superstructure’. At finite temperature, the nature and characteristics of the surface structures, the possibility of phase transitions are discussed.
