Abstract

I discuss the plasmonic properties of charged fluids introducing a two-fluid model for spherical microparticles in analogy to metal particles. Additional degrees of freedom (ion mass, ion charge, concentration) allow a wide range of resonance frequencies. I include commonly neglected charge interactions thus deriving nonlocal Mie coefficients applicable for either ions or metals and demonstrate the impact of nonlocality in these different spectral regimes. Ionic microspheres and chains are studied and compared to solid metal nanoparticles.
