Abstract
ABSTRACT Alcohol care teams represent a unique resource to deliver holistic care for those presenting to acute hospital services with alcohol-related ill-health. However, most existing data regarding the characteristics of individuals engaging with alcohol support services concern those involved with community services. We reviewed the sociodemographic and alcohol-use characteristics of patients presenting to the Sandwell and West-Birmingham NHS Trust Alcohol Care team between 2018 and 2023. Patients engaging with Alcohol Care Teams in hospitals represent a population of significant vulnerability, driven by multiple sociodemographic and alcohol-use characteristics. These patients are distinct from those in community service treatment.
