Abstract
President Arribas, distinguished guests, members, and friends of the Society: I am pleased to present to you the SEG Ralph W. Marsden awardee for 2012, Dr. Allan P. Juhas. The Ralph W. Marsden Award is presented for “outstanding service to SEG” and is based on a person’s record of exceptional stewardship and contributions to the Society. Marsden’s long association with and substantial contributions to SEG have been noted in the past and led to the establishment of this award. The Society provides several awards named after individuals, and I think it is worth pausing briefly to note that these are named after individuals whose peers of the time felt compelled to honor their contributions in some special manner. Their influence extended beyond the Society and further complemented their contributions.
