Abstract

■ The requirements of national development programs often conflict with basic assumptions of the Ameritan model of professional social work. Questions have been raised in developing nations about the relevance for national development programs of either social work technical assistance or social work education based on this model. In this paper, the author discusses the nature of national development, the role of the social work—social welfare and community development models in a development program, the options and constraints for social work in developing nations, and the implications for training personnel In such nations. ■
